I think it’s clear to most people that Ranno and Zetterburn are (once again) the best characters in the game. You’ll hear grumbling about Orcane/Lox/Fleet at high level, but it is deeply clear from recent tournament results how strong these characters are in tournament play. Both are mostly not toxic in gamplay (Zetter is questionable), but clearly better than the field. Can we just lightly and cautiously buff the rest of the cast to their power level?
Not in a constant buffs way, but I don’t think it’s healthy to just make two incredibly simple and straight-forward characters like Ranno and Zetterburn significantly better than the field. Why do they combo easier/harder than all the heavies (except Lox) and have about the same actual kill power (not charging smashes in Gold rank) too? Why play Olympia or Absa, very technical/specific/challenging characters, when Ranno and Zetter are standing there better in every area of the game than them?
Please consider buffing the weaker characters in ways that give them some sort of advantage at tournament level to just playing Zetter/Ranno. I sorta understand hardcore “gimmick” characters like Etalus/Slade not being buffed, but Olympia, Kragg, and Absa shouldn’t have to just be strictly worse across the board than the two most popular characters. All of those characters became more interesting to play after their nerfs, but lost edges they had and reasons to play them outside of gameplay variety. Every character is viable, but it’s a shame that the most simple characters in the game are flatly the best with no caveats. I think finding ways to buff the unique parts of gameplay on these characters would be good.
PS: Stop listening to smash4/ult players try to tell you how to make a good game, please do not let them continue to whisper in your ear and ruin the fun and wacky aspects of this game. You guys know how to make a good game yourselves. It doesn’t need to be perfect or be Melee2 or Ult+ or whatever.
